Led by Professor Marylin Sephocle, a group of students and faculty from Howard University Department of Languages and Cultures visited African Union mission in Washington on Thursday, April 4, 2019, for a 2hrs conference with Ambassador Arikana Chihombori Quao. The goals of the conference were to inform the students about the current international affairs, celebrate the women in diplomacy and highlight the importance of languages in public diplomacy.
In her remarks at the conference, the African Union Ambassador to the United States, Dr. Arikana Chihombori Quao, seized on the occasion to talk about the negative impact of Berlin conference on Africa. She highlighted the positive development on the continent in light of the African Free Trade Zone (AFTZ) being implemented. Dr. Arikana also commented on Self-funding of the African Union and invited the Diaspora to be part of the African Renaissance, among other topics. By Ben Bangoura
