On Friday November 18, 2022, The Eurasia Center of America held its first Embassy Series at Melrose Hotel in Washington featuring former US Ambassador Robert D. Blake Jr as a guest speaker. At this special cultural and business networking event, attendees included foreign diplomats, academics, journalists and students.
Ambassador Blake used his nearly 30- minute presentation at podium to discuss a wide range of issues relevant to US foreign policy. He stressed the importance of numerous reforms taking place at State Department, an institution once seen as reserved for the elite, but that is now « increasingly inclusive and diverse. »
The diplomat went on to share some of his 31-year rich experience working in different regions of the world, including Southeast Asia where he served as US Ambassador to Indonesia, to Sri Lanka and the Maldives. In Indonesia, he highlighted his work focused on building stronger business and educational ties between the US and Indonesia, while also developing cooperation to help the country reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The presentation was followed by a Q and A session that lasted for an addition 10 -minute.
At the end, the President and Founder of the Eurasia Center of America, Dr. Gerry Jenco presented a surprise Lifetime Achievement Award to Ambassador Blake, before guests enjoyed an art exhibition as a part of the event.
